Linear Welding & Fabrication: The Grand Prairie Owner’s Guide

We stock and install Linear-compatible gate hardware and do on-site welding and fabrication in Grand Prairie, with most welding repairs running $180 to $450 depending on the hinge, post, or frame work involved. If you call before noon, we can usually have Hal or one of his crew in your driveway the same day, welder in the truck and parts matched to your Linear model. Most folks find us after the gate starts dragging on one corner, the opener strains and trips the breaker, or a hinge tears loose from the post with that ugly screech of metal giving up. The frame cracked. The weld failed. Whatever the exact story, it’s the same end result: the gate doesn’t close right and your Linear operator is working against a problem it wasn’t built to fight.

Which Linear Models This Applies To

We weld and fabricate for the whole Linear swing and slide gate lineup, from the smaller LRA residential swing operators up through the LS series slide operators you’ll see on ranch entrances and light commercial drives around Grand Prairie. The operator model matters less for welding than the gate itself matters: we’re fixing the steel, not the circuit board. But here’s the compatibility gotcha most people miss. Linear slide gates use a welded chain bracket or sprocketed rail mount that has to match the gate’s post spacing and the operator’s exact chain height. If someone welds that bracket even a half-inch off, the chain walks, the gate surges, and the operator burns out early. Hal measures everything twice before the welder ever lights up.

On the parts side, we stock OEM Linear hardware when it matters: latch brackets, chain idler plates, and the receiver plates that bolt to the gate frame. For structural steel and hinge plates, we fabricate in-house and use the same gauge or heavier than the original. Aftermarket is fine for steel stock; it is not fine for anything that touches the operator’s electrical or limit systems. We’ll tell you which is which, and why, before we cut anything.

Signs Your Linear Welding & Fabrication Is Failing

  • The gate sags toward the latch side and the bottom corner catches the dirt. This is almost always a failing hinge weld or a hinge post that’s taken too much load and cracked at the base. The sag lives at the post, not in the middle of the gate. We fix the post side first, then re-hang.
  • The Linear operator runs but the gate stutters or reverses mid-cycle. That’s usually a broken or loose weld on the chain bracket or drive rail letting the gate shift under load. The opener’s force limit is catching the resistance, and it’s trying to tell you something.
  • You can see daylight between the gate frame and the hinge plate. That’s a torn weld, plain and simple. It’s also the one that gets worse every single cycle until the gate drops. A gate that weighs 400 pounds doesn’t just sit there politely while a weld fails.
  • The chain sags or makes a skipping sound on the sprocket. The welded idler or sprocket mount has moved, or the bolt holes have wallowed out. In Grand Prairie’s clay soil, posts shift over years, and that movement finds the weakest weld on the gate.
  • You hear a metal-on-metal grind when the gate starts moving. Somewhere, steel is rubbing steel that shouldn’t be. Could be the frame cracked behind a weld, could be a hinge pin seized. Either way, running it longer turns a weld job into a frame replacement.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

In Grand Prairie, figure $180 to $450 for most welding and fabrication repairs on Linear gate hardware, depending on how much steel is involved and whether we’re rebuilding one hinge point or the whole frame corner. A simple hinge re-weld with the gate re-hung runs on the low end. Rebuilding a cracked frame rail, replacing the hinge plates, and re-aligning the Linear operator bracket to factory spec runs toward the top. We tell you the price before we strike an arc, and that’s the price you pay. No surprises at the door.

Every weld job includes the steel, the welding consumables, the labor to line the gate up true, and a full cycle test with your Linear operator to confirm the opener isn’t fighting anything. The 90-Day Done Right Promise covers the work in writing. If that weld fails, Hal comes back and makes it right. That’s just how it works.

DIY or Call Us?

You can check your gate’s bolts, watch for the sag, and keep the track clear of mud and grass. That’s owner’s work, and it helps. What you shouldn’t do is grab a flux-core welder and try to lay a bead on a load-bearing gate hinge while the gate’s still hanging. A gate under spring or opener tension can shift without warning, and a bad weld on a moving gate is worse than the broken weld you started with. If you’ve got the gate blocked and the tension off, and you’re an experienced welder, a light cosmetic fix might be in reach. For anything structural, on any gate holding weight, call someone who welds gates for a living. That’s us.

Tell me what it’s doing, and I’ll tell you what it needs. No runaround. Call (903) 829-4499 and talk to a real person.
