  • Closing alignment. When the gate closes, the latch bar should enter the strike plate on the same line every time. If it scrapes the top or bottom of the opening, the latch post has settled or tipped.
  • Lift check. Push the latch post sideways with your hand, firmly but not hard. A properly set post doesn’t move. If you feel even a click of movement, the post’s concrete collar has cracked or the soil has loosened, and that will only get worse.

Here’s why. Your opener’s force setting controls how hard the operator pushes the gate before the safety circuit kicks in and reverses it. Set it too low and the gate stalls in the wind or won’t climb a slight grade on a cold morning.
